Everyone Needs Playtime

In our hectic, modern lives, many of us focus so heavily on work and family commitments that we never seem to have time for pure fun. Somewhere between childhood and adulthood, we stopped playing.

When we carve out some leisure time, we’re more likely to zone out in front of the TV or computer than engage in fun, rejuvenating play like we did as children. But play is not just essential for kids; it can be an important source of relaxation and stimulation for adults as well.

There doesn’t need to be any point to the activity beyond having fun and enjoying yourself. By giving yourself permission to play with the joyful abandon of childhood, you can reap oodles of health benefits throughout life.

My Photogenic LiccA

The first Photogenic LiccA models were released September 2024, debuting Daisy with her mixed colour and outward-curled hair, Dahlia with wheat skin and orange-tone makeup, and Iris with her mixed pink and purple hair.

Unlike traditional Licca-chan dolls designed mainly for children, the Photogenic LiccA line features adult-oriented collector dolls with articulated joints at the shoulders, hips, knees, wrists, and ankles. The arms are flexible allowing many poses, though I am at a loss to why they didn't use a joint at the elbow as they have done everywhere else. The dolls also come with interchangeable hand parts (three left and right hand options) to allow for expressive posing and photography.

Gradually, Takara Tomy expanded their Photogenic LiccA line and I bought two of these dolls, Orlaya and Cattleya. The dolls were up for pre order on the official Takara Tomy online shop for shipping July. At that time each doll's RRP was 5,000 JPY (about AU$45 currently). I was happy to have purchased both my first two for AU$105.90 including taxes & shipping.

A basic outfit of cute lounge wear with matching earrings is included, Orlaya wears a light blue set and Cattleya has a light purple set. I am pleased that their hair style and colour is different.

The doll on the right is the LD-07 Nyan Pet Sitter, which I ordered then cancelled, because Amazon couldn't provide a shipping date. So I ordered LD-17 Airy Trench Coat (below left) instead. Neither of these two are part of the Photogenic line though. They are part of the LD series (Look Dress) which feature individual Licca-chan fashion doll releases, each designated with a unique LD catalog number showcasing themed outfits, brand collaborations and seasonal styles.

On 31st October, 2026 I ordered the Photogenic Gothic Noir, which completes my trio of Photogenic LiccA's.
