Singapore #2

Gardens by the Bay was so impressive. Water flows through the Outdoor Gardens via interconnected lakes and waterways. Dragonfly Lake and Kingfisher Lake are tranquil spaces, perfect for taking a breather to appreciate the sculptures that lie within them. During the day we wandered along the Kingfisher Wetlands trail to the Super Trees.

Below photos were taken as dusk fell and turned to night. The Super Tree evening light and sound show blew me away, it's best I have ever seen. I took a video, unfortunately it was too long to upload to Blogger.

The Garden Rhapsody theme was "World of Fantasy", which was inspired by the the colourful worlds of Wizardry, Magic, Cosmic Space, Ocean, Adventure and Dinosaurs. The colours of the lighting changed in time with the music, which included several themes from different television series such as Bonanza to films like Star Wars to Frozen and the Little Mermaid.

The following day we visited Singapore’s popular Bay South Gardens which cover 1.28 hectares. This cavernous cooled conservatory holds the Guinness World Record for the largest glass greenhouse! Here's just a few photos I took of the popular Flower Dome.

Above is the painted fibreglass sculpture of Kei-Chan by Yayoi Kusama. Everything changes from season to season in the Flower Dome which features some really gorgeous and unusual displays. I recommend you wear good walking shoes if you want to see it all.

We visited the Cloud Forest the same day. It is a cooled conservatory, however, it's far from being cool inside it, although it is very cool to look at.

Above left is a bronze sculpture of the "Thinker" by Lee Kuang-Yu, and on the right, the blown glass and steel sculpture "Ethereal White Persians" by Dale Chihuly.

Above, an Avatar sculpture (there were several others) and  below, one of the tallest indoor waterfalls and the imposing mountain wrapped in plants from all around the world.

Above you can see the walkway that meanders through the "clouds" and the huge mushrooms which are suspended on wires.

When I was planning this trip, people told me I could see Singapore in less than seven days, we spent fifteen days there and still didn't see everything! This is a wonderful place to holiday if you like the heat (and I do). Given the opportunity, I will certainly visit Singapore again, it's SAFE, CLEAN and the Singaporeans are COURTEOUS & FRIENDLY and we mustn't forget the FOOD, well you've seen some of it already. 😊

Singapore #1

China Town was very clean, and the Buddhist Temple was beautiful.

Even in China Town one could see a reference to Singapore's British roots (check the Street name).

We were out strolling around at10am but, as you can see,

the shops don't open early in Singapore. I imagine this would be very busy in the evening when all the shops and eateries remain open late.

Outside the Buddhist Temple, you can see from the ground we'd had rain, it came down in buckets for a short while then it was back to blue skies.

Inside was breath taking, so much gold!

The chanting of the monks was mesmerising.

The Jewel at Changi airport was huge,

but I didn't spend too much time looking at shopping area.

When you look at the size of the people below,

you realise just how huge this place is.

Looking back from the other side. In case you are wondering about this hole, it's part of the world's largest indoor waterfall which starts seven stories high, unfortunately being there through the day I missed seeing it. (The Rain Vortex is located at the centre of the Jewel Changi compound and is surrounded by the Forest Valley and Jewel Changi Airport restaurants and retail outlets.)

As you can see some of the trees are really huge.

The Walking Net is suspended across a void twenty five metres above ground,

not an easy stroll to forget, it's like walking on air. In the front is the Bouncing Net.

  

Right at the very top of Changi Jewel, there were small restaurants where you could eat and rest for a while . . . and one needed to rest after walking around Changi. I hardly expected to see trees like this on the top floor, and yes, they are real.

Food, Food and more Food!

Just a little taste of what Singapore can offer in the way of food.

The cakes & pastry photos were taken inside this shopping complex.

We found this place when we were looking for somewhere to have breakfast . . . the name made us laugh.

Meals below are from Crossroads Café. Beef cheeks with veg., Creamy mushroom pasta, Caesar salad with chicken, Sliders with salad & fries and an Asian poached chicken dish.

Buffet dinner at the Marriott Tang Plaza where we were staying. You simply chose what you felt like at the time. Going back for a second serve or having two desserts made you feel like the cost was worth it and besides it was fun!

When I showed my hubby he thought it was strange to eat watermelon with chicken, potatoes and greens . . . I didn't, it went quite well with them all and the fresh sweet watermelon was really tasty!

Above bread & butter pudding, mango & strawberry chef made ice-cream and a small selection of tiny indulgent treats.

Another breakfast at a local café . . . a little weird but it tasted okay.
