Holly Golightly - Breakfast at Tiffany's

Almost sixty years after Breakfast at Tiffany's first premiered (1961), it's still movie magic, if you haven't watched it yet, I encourage you to do so!

Audrey Hepburn's costumes seen throughout the movie are as noteworthy and fashionable today as they were then, and she wore this little black dress like no other woman has ever done!

The pearls, the hat, the sunglasses, simply added to her elegance.

There were several things I liked about this movie, and aside from the story itself, it's the costuming that I remember the most. Designed by Hubert de Givenchy and supervised by Edith Head (my favourite costume designer), they were absolutely stunning!

NOTE: Givenchy donated the black satin gown, shown in the top picture, to City of Joy Aid, and in 2006 the dress was auctioned off at Christie’s for more than $900,000.

I find movies like this, those with beautiful costuming, often inspire me to make something special for my dolls. Do you have a favourite movie, costumer, designer or someone who insires you when dressing your dolls?

Inspired by Dolce and Gabbana

Some of you maybe aware that I made teddy bears for many years, long before I began collecting dolls. It was a wonderful creative outlet and one that I enjoyed for almost 16 years. Often I would look for inspiration to create something new and exciting. However, sometimes, no matter how hard I looked, I could not always find it.

Then there were times when inspiration would simply arrive when I least expected it, often in the strangest forms . . . it may have been a colour, a fabric, a piece of music, a beautiful poem, a child's book or as in this particular case, it was a couple of wonderful Italian designers.

I kept the little clown on the left (Dulcie) and the other (Gabanny) found a new home overseas.
