Everyone Needs Playtime

In our hectic, modern lives, many of us focus so heavily on work and family commitments that we never seem to have time for pure fun. Somewhere between childhood and adulthood, we stopped playing.

When we carve out some leisure time, we’re more likely to zone out in front of the TV or computer than engage in fun, rejuvenating play like we did as children. But play is not just essential for kids; it can be an important source of relaxation and stimulation for adults as well.

There doesn’t need to be any point to the activity beyond having fun and enjoying yourself. By giving yourself permission to play with the joyful abandon of childhood, you can reap oodles of health benefits throughout life.

Project: A Telephone Box

I came across this Telephone Box when we were in Bunnings the other day for AU$15.60 (it's actually a money box) and although it is not 1:6 scale (more like 1:12 scale), it will still work as a prop with many of my smaller dolls.

I gave it one coat of red paint, which covered it quite well, I was not happy with the colour.

The shade of red I used was not quite bright enough, so I used a slightly brighter red when I gave it a second coat.  It was also darn fiddly trying to paint the door and windows without getting paint on the perspex, and I ended up having to clean the perspex with a cotton bud.

The real phone boxes had the word "TELEPHONE" painted on a white section above the door and round the sides above the windows. I thought it would be too hard to paint and have it looking neat, so I printed it on paper then glued it on when all the painting was complete.

Then I made a door handle from jewellery findings which I found in my stash.
I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out and so is Truffles, a tiny elf who lives with Bon Bon and Gum Drop in a small Gingerbread House, which has no telephone. :)

Sharing a Story

We often hear tell of "The Little Black Dress", but today I would like to share a wee story from "The Ol' Pink Bag". Of course each of the bags shown below will have it's own story to tell.

The Ol' Pink Bag: "I'll just tell you a little about me. See the one in the top row centre, #2 that's me. I'm quite business like and carry my owner's diary, her note pad, car keys, purse, card wallet, tissues, lippy and sometimes even a sketch pad. There have also been occasions when she has managed to squeeze a doll or two in me as well."

Which Ol' Pink Bag Are You?

A Day Out

It was going to be a scorcher today, so hubby and I decided it would be a good day to take a 130 kilometer drive to pick up a replacement "Land For Widlife" sign from Alexandra, for our Beechworth property.

I remembered to take my camera and a wee doll with me this time. However, the doll ended up staying in my bag most of the time due to the heat and flies giving me a hard time! The following three photos were taken just outside Alexandra.

If you think it looks hot and dry, you're right!

On the way back we stopped off at Ned's Gully, at the foot of the Cathedral Range which is just a small part of the Great Dividing Range. It was still hot and the flies were just as bad!

The Cathedral Range State Park is located in Victoria, Australia, approximately 100 kilometres north-east from Melbourne. It is situated between the towns Buxton and Taggerty and runs parallel to Maroondah Highway. The Cathedral Range was declared a State Park on 26 April 1979.

I walked across the suspension bridge and took these.

Looking down the gully.

Across the park.

And looking up at the beginning of the Cathedral Range.

Featuring a spectacular rugged, rocky ridge and rich natural and cultural heritage, this 3577 hectare park offers many outdoor activities ranging from relaxed camping by a clear mountain stream, to an exciting climb to its 468 meter exposed peaks.

And a little further down Maroondah Highway at a dirt road turn off, I managed to get a couple of clear shots of the range as we continued down the Highway home.

Hope you enjoy seeing a little of my home state. :)
